Week of October 13

I am FINALLY able to get on this page and give some updates! It has been such a busy week.

Spelling:
Group 1 - Continue studying the letter A and beginning working on the letter B.

Group 2 - yellow, too, want, are, did, that, she, do, get, get, will BONUS - have, brown, under

Group 3 - as, with, his, they, I

Science:
We have completed studying the sense of touch and are now working on the sense of sound. We know that we touch and feel with our hands and skin. We know that there are different ways that things feel such as soft, hard, rough, smooth, hot, cold, warm, etc. This week we began studying the sense of hearing. We use our ears to hear and listen. We learned that sometimes we know something is going on because we can hear it even if we can't see it. For example, the students closed their eyes and I clapped my hands. They had to tell me how they knew I was clapping me hands. We also discussed different sounds - things we enjoy hearing such as waterfalls, singing, laughter; things we don't like to hear such as fire alarms, alarm clocks, dogs barking, and bad singing. To continue working on these skills at home you may want to ask your child how something feels or sounds when they are involved in an activity. For example, if your child is petting a dog a good question would be, "how does the dog's hair feel".

Things to remember:
  • Please sign agendas every night. There may be an important message in there for you.
  • Please check homework. While your child may do the work independently, he/she may need further assistance.
  • Down Syndrome awareness walk will be at Cleveland Park on Sunday 10/19 at 1:00
